FAMA FLUXUS   MYTHOS BEUYS ... jetzt neu!
NEW!

To: FLUXUS INTERNATIONAL & C°

Fluxus never stops (Ben Vautier,Nice 1963-2003)

Yes, Fluxus brings people and ideas together; it’s rather activities and events than shows. That’s why we would like to invite artist/activists to Sindelfingen, November 19th 2005, Gallery (Museum) of the City (The Gallery is the historical landmark City hall, converted and remodeled in 1989 by the renowned Berlin architect J.P.Kleihues).

The project: FAMA FLUXUS MYTHOS BEUYS is a cooperation of Kunst+Projekte Sindelfingen e.V. (an Art Society), the Academy of Art, Berlin-Weissensee (formerly East Germany) and ‘European Media Studies’ (with emphasis on philosophy and New Media) at the University of Potsdam. The project started a year ago at the Art Academy where students took courses in the field of Fluxus (with S.D. Sauerbier) and the art of Joseph Beuys and now want to meet the ’original’ Fluxus activists and their present work (or shall we historicize a phenomenon as Fluxus while people are still alive??). Tomas Schmit… we met already last year in Berlin and presented some works in Sindelfingen (we are also collaborating with the Sohm Archives, Staatsgalie Stuttgart). Now we all hope to meet in Sindelfingen: Ben Patterson, Ann Noel, Emmett Williams will be there too.

It’s not just the activities in Sindelfingen, in Berlin, that keep us busy, we also work on a research project based on the ‘Big Chart’ by Maciunas, the “Diagram of Historical Development of Fluxus and other 4 Dimensional, Aural, Optic, Olfactory, Epithelial and Tactile Art Forms (incomplete) (detail)”, 1973 and other diagrams.

As the two dimensional archival diagrams turn out to be too static and not really communicative in the world of New Media, we try to develop a three dimensional dynamic model based on Maciunas’ presentation. It shall be more flexible than the flat surface structure of the early diagram for situations and developments, for layering information on different levels – stated already by Maciunas himself in his famous Interview with Larry Miller.

Anyway, we try to get the material together, no longer printed matter here and moving material there. This is quite a task as the Scientific and the Art Institutions in Germany are so highly specialized and the knowledge and craftsmanship is not at one place, we started cooperation between the faculties of Philosophy, Art History, Information architecture, Interactive Design.

We want to emphasize the discourse in Fluxus, rather than staging single shows. We kindly invite you to participate with all your humor, in a European setting within the International crowd.

What we want from you? Please come to Sindelfingen, embrace everybody with your sense of humor. Tell us something about Fluxus - if you like, your life.

Regards, The Project Members
